The Via Appia Antica, the “queen of roads,” is the ancient Roman consular road dotted with tombs and monuments, today a regional park immersed in greenery and silence.
Accessibility and concessions
- Free access at the park; some sites along the route (catacombs, villas) require a fee.
- Some features retain the original Roman paving, very bumpy and difficult for a wheelchair; other sections are easier.
- La Sunday several sections are closed to traffic: safer and more pleasant to travel.
- The visitor center and some areas have variable accessibility: it is best to check with the individual sites beforehand.
What aid do we recommend for this visit?
The Roman pavement is very uneven: a large-wheeled scooter or a sturdy wheelchair with an attendant is essential. Lightweight wheelchairs are not recommended.
