The monument
The Flavian Amphitheater, inaugurated in 80 AD, is the symbol of Rome and one of the most visited monuments in the world. The Colosseum Archaeological Park has made the main levels accessible, so that even visitors with mobility difficulties can enjoy the experience.
Accessibility and concessions
- Free entry For visitors with disabilities and their companions, no reservation is required: please go to the ticket office with your disability certificate.
- Entrances with ramps: the ground floor (first tier) of the amphitheater is wheelchair accessible.
- Lift to reach the first floor (second tier).
- Wheelchairs on loan available on site (one for the ground floor and one for the first floor), subject to availability.
- The ground is partly ancient and uneven; the upper levels and some areas are inaccessible.
What aid do we recommend for this visit?
The accessible paths are partly on old, uneven cobblestones: a sturdy wheelchair with an attendant or a large-wheeled scooter is best. Lightweight indoor wheelchairs are not recommended.
